Used PET Bottle-Free Initiative in Puri

The initiative aimed to promote responsible plastic waste management during the Puri Rath Yatra, a significant cultural event. As part of the #MaidaanSaaf campaign, hundreds of volunteers were deployed and PET collection bins installed across key locations in Puri. Additionally, help desks staffed by trained personnel were set up to guide and educate visitors on eco-friendly disposal practices. Community-driven clean-up efforts during the campaign included beach clean-ups and a plog run at strategic locations.

Pragati Graam

The “Kanji Kwala” check dam was constructed on the stream of River Banne in the town of Ramnagar as a reliable source of irrigation. Dug wells were recharged, helping the community meet its agricultural and other essential needs. To improve freshwater resources in drought-hit villages of Bijawar, Madhya Pradesh, check dams and ponds were established, elevating groundwater levels.

21,500 recycled PET jackets were distributed to cleanliness workers and boatmen. 1,000 women’s changing rooms made entirely from recycled multi-layered plastic waste were installed along a 12-kilometre stretch of river ghats. The changing room walls featured artwork by popular artists, raising awareness on effective waste management.

We support women safai sathis (cleanliness workers), leading the charge in waste management in Ahmedabad. They collect and sort waste from all households in housing neighbourhoods. At MRFs (Material Recovery Facilities), they diligently separate this waste into distinct categories, ensuring that every item is directed toward recycling and reuse. Their efforts culminate at the Geetanjali Centre, where they skillfully craft products from recycled materials into functional products like notebooks and paper items.
